Formula 1 in Baku: List of participants of the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Australian driver Oscar Piastri, who won last year, will take part in the competition again. However, he currently ranks fourth in the overall standings with 34 points. The leader is Lando Norris from Great Britain, who has 44 points. Max Verstappen from the Netherlands is second with 36 points, and George Russell, who has 35 points, completes the top three.
Lando Norris has been passionate about motorsport since childhood. Starting with motocross, he switched to karting at the age of 7 and became the CIK-FIA KF world champion at the age of 14. In 2019, at the age of just 20, Norris made his Formula 1 debut as part of the McLaren team. Despite some difficulties, his career has been successful and he has already marked himself with a podium at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix. Lando also actively engages with fans through streams and games. His unique style and helmets have become signatures, and his performances under the number 4 make him an up-and-coming driver.
Max Verstappen has established himself as one of the leading drivers. In 2020, driving for Red Bull Racing, he finished third and received significant bonuses. In 2021, he won the championship title, overtaking Lewis Hamilton in the final race. In 2022, Verstappen confidently defended his title, winning 15 races. In 2023, he took 19 wins out of a possible 22, securing his third championship title in a row, and added a fourth in 2024.
George Russell, driving for Mercedes under the number 63, has become a prominent figure in Formula 1. After starting his career with the Mercedes Junior Team, he made his Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix with Williams. His smooth driving style saw him replace Lewis Hamilton at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. In 2024, Russell won the Austrian and Las Vegas Grands Prix, setting a record as the seventh driver to win more than one race in a season, beating the previous record set in 1981.
